Birchgate Olive Oil is a cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil, grown in the crisp, clean environment of the Adelaide Hills. Like wine the natural flavour varies according to the season and may vary slightly from batch to batch, however the highest quality flavoursome healthy oil remains the same. The Mediterranean climate and fertile soils of South Australia mean not only do we produce excellent wine but also some of the best olive oil in Australia.

Our grove of over 600 trees is made up of old grove trees and our more recent plantings of Mediterranean varieties. Here at Birchgate we want to produce the very highest quality oils, and every step of our oil producing process is dedicated to this – starting with how we grow our olives.

Our Philosophy

Organic Oil grown in an ecologically sensitive way

Our philosophy has always been to manage our grove in an ecologically sound manner. Whilst others were cutting away pasture around trees and irrigating, we chose to take advantage of the high rainfall and cool, pristine climate of the Adelaide Hills to grow pasture and graze our horses side by side with our olives. The result is we do not have to irrigate or add fertilisers to our groves. Our olives are grown organically so that only the very best quality fruit is used to produce our cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil.

Organically grown foods have grown in popularity in recent years, and we’ve worked hard to make sure that we can grow our olives in a healthy and naturally pest free environment, without resorting to strong chemicals to keep our olives in good shape. We believe that our olive oil provides you with the best possible flavour and health benefits for precisely this reason.
